Charity appointment reaches out a helping hand

Romans Lettings and Jon Hallett The Property Agents have been jointly appointed by the Reading Consolidated Almshouse Charity to let 41 one and two bedroom apartments at Penton House in Kennet Island, Reading.

With rent capped at 80% of the market rate for 31 apartments, these affordable and attractive properties are aimed exclusively at tenants aged over 55 who meet certain criteria, with preference given to those who demonstrate an urgent need for accommodation - perhaps through experiencing difficult circumstances such as divorce, redundancy, illness, harassment/domestic violence, financial problems and homelessness. The charity is especially keen to help people with a local connection to the area, so potential tenants must also show that they have lived within 20 miles of St Mary’s Church (at St Mary’s Butts in Reading) for three years at some stage in their lives.

"At a time when some people are struggling to find suitable accommodation, we are delighted to be working with the charity in a rental scheme that reaches out to those in need," says John Sumner, Regional Director of Romans Lettings.
